The Company Softball Team is back in 2010!

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I know that it does not feel like Spring out there, but Softball Season is almost here again.  Henrico County has already contacted us with registration information for this season.

Just like last season, we will opt to play in the Henrico County CoRec-Recreational League: 28 Game Schedule.  Our team registration is due in early March and I expect for games to begin the week of March 29th.   Per person costs will be determined by how many people are on the roster this season and will need to cover our Team Registration Fee ($835.00), any out of County non-residents fees ($15/person that does not live within Henrico County), and team shirts ($TBD).  I expect the per person cost to be around $60 just like it was last season.

Once we get the roster set and collect the money needed to pay our registration dues – we will begin to work on:

  • 2010 TEAM SHIRTS – yes, with numbers; and names this year.
  • Season Kick-Off Happy Hour or Team Party… maybe a Flying Squirrels Game? GO NUTZ!
  • Optional Practices – probably in Mid March, on Saturday Mornings, just like we did last season
  • Website Updates & Confirming Cell Phone Alerts

Let me know if you have any questions at this time. I am looking forward to another season and hopefully this time we can put together a team for the tournament!

Tie Game earns The Company a Divisional Championship

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

This past Monday night The Company took the field against the undefeated (26-0) Hit & Run II at Hunton Park. Needing a win or a tie against the best team in the Henrico County Monday Night Co-Rec Softball league to clinch a Divisional Championship, it was clear that The Company was going to have to play their best ball to accomplish their goal.

During Game 1, Hit & Run II did not show much weakness and controlled the game from start to finish; but The Company was ready for a change of pace when Game 2 began. The Company quickly showed that they we were able to produce with runners in scoring position, play smart and strong defense, and compete head-to-head with the undefeated Hit & Run II team. When the dust settled at the end of the night, The Company had reason to celebrate. With a tie game in the bottom of the last, The Company was able to hold Hit & Run II scoreless and close their season with a tie against the best in the league.

With this tie, The Company spoiled Hit & Run II’s perfect season and clinched the Divisional Championship they had been battling for all season. Great Season guys! We will see you in 2010 – better than before and ready for more.

The Company Moves to 11-10-1

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

With two Wins Monday Night over Cap Tech, The Company moves their record to 11-10-1.

Following a 13-3 Game 1 victory, The Company was tasked with a challenge during Game 2. The team needed two runs to tie or three runs to win in the bottom of the last inning. Collins and Pauli started out the bottom half of the inning by earning consecutive walks, putting early pressure on Cap Tech. Boswell soon tied the game with a triple that bounced off the left field fence. With one out, and Boswell on third, Jennifer Groome came through with a game winning hit up the middle. With these two wins, The Company gets above .500 and is looking forward to the final 3 weeks of the season.

Check out the remaining schedule by clicking on the Schedule tab in the right hand corner.  If you are interested, the team stats have been updated following this weeks games and can be found on the Team Roster page.

2 Game split with the Undefeated Softball Team

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Last night The Company split a two game series with Softball Team, who entered the night 8-0.

Game 1 was a duel, the home team had a clear advantage and the last at bat.  With a tie game in the bottom of last and bases loaded, Justin O’neale came through with a single into left field.  Ashley Davis scored the winning run as Softball Team suffered their first loss of the season.  (W, 8-7)

During game 2, we found ourselves in an early hole.  After the first inning, The Company was down 8-1.  As the game went on our bats came alive; but when time ran out we had fallen just short. Game 2 ended in a loss, losing by just one run.  (L, 8-7).

Another notable mention from last night must be Liz Kornacki, who helped us out on short notice, contributed at the plate and made several plays at second base.  Thanks so much Liz!

Add another to the Win Column

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Following last weeks wash out, the field at Hunton Park held off the rainy conditions Monday morning and field was ready to play come 8:10pm that night.

Ryan Sutphin, our teams leader in innings pitched this season, arrived at the field Monday night armed with a bag of new pitches.  But when it was all said and done, Sutphin would reply on his  his consistent ability to keep the ball over the plate and the defense behind during game 1.   The Company went the entire first game without an extra base hit; but the team put together a string of great at bats and pushed across 10 runs.  Unfortunately, in the top of the last inning, so did T-Mobile.  They were able to get just enough players around to score and tie the game.  The game ended in a tie, the first tie of the season for The Company. (T, 10-10)

Game 2 would be a different story.  The offense continued to be steady, building on an early lead each inning.  The story in game two was the team defense.  T-Mobile was held to only 4 hits and 1 run as The Company won game 2. (W, 11-1)

Team notable mentions include:  Laurie Huebner, who got both starts at second base, made multiple great plays, and  threw out a number of opponents at first base;  Ashley Davis, who found a new position behind the plate and reached base 5 times in 7 at bats Monday Night; and Mike Boswell, who returned to the line-up after a few missed weeks due to a prior commitment and had a 4 for 5 night at the plate with 2 runs scored and a couple of RBI’s.

5/11 Game still on

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Just a quick update – tonight’s game is still on!

Our field is playable and tonight’s game is still scheduled to start at 8:10pm.  Please arrive by 7:45 and email me ASAP if you are not planning on being there.

In the event that we get more rain, the fieldworkers on site will determine if the field is still playable.  I believe that all the rain has passed us and we should be in the clear – but if more rain shows up and the games status changes, I will send out a text alert and an email.
