The Company Softball Team opened up the 2009 season Monday night by splitting the first two games of the year with division rival CAP Tech.
Ryan Sutphin, the newest member of pitching rotation, was called on to be our opening day starter and he did everything he could to keep us in the game until the very end. The offense was steady all night, but down just one run in the bottom half of the last inning, our bats could not rally and we feel just short. (L, 11-10)
Game 2 brought new life to our offense and the team defense played lights out. Steve Pauli, a league veteran and the anchor of our pitching staff, came through in the clutch holding CAP Tech to only 4 runs and earning the first “W” of the season! (W, 8-4)
Other notable mentions include: Michelle Miller, who after working late Monday night came to the field ready to hit with power; Laurie Huebner, who’s leadership behind the plate gave evidence to why she was named a female captain before the season even began; and lastly Lynsey Leib, who fought through the wind and cold to keep us on task all night long.
Week 1 is in the books and our team has a lot to be proud of after Monday night.
